Beginners should use a digital tuner for accuracy. Avoid pushing the pegs in too tightly until the strings are properly tuned.

For new rosin, lightly scrape the surface with a hard object to help it adhere to the bow hair.

Remove the bow from its case and gently tighten the white horsehair until it is taut—firm but not overstretched.

Start by rubbing the tip of the bow, then move steadily down to the frog to ensure even coverage. For a new bow, apply rosin back and forth several times to build up sufficient grip.
